A brief history of Teahan Optometrists

Many of the older generation of Naas will remember Cullen’s Hardware and Seeds business at 26, North Main Street, which was originally owned by Carmel Teahan's parents, Aidan and Bates Martin, and her uncle, Jimmy Cullen. Teahan Optometrists was established in 1971 by Oliver and Carmel Teahan above the hardware store. When Carmel's parents retired the optometry practice expanded into the whole building at 26 North Main Street, and became a more prominent business on the main street of Naas.

Veronica Roche, F.B.D.O., our dispensing Optician joined the practice in 1994, and qualified as a dispensing optician in 2000. She was promoted to Practice Manager soon after receiving her qualification in 2000.

In 2003, after many years of hard work and dedication to the practice, Carmel retired. Her daughter, Nicola Teahan B.Sc. F.A.O.I., joined the practice in the same year, as the managing optometrist.

In March 2005, optometrist Michael Kehoe B.Sc. M.C. Optom., a native of Naas, joined the practice. Michael comes from a medical background, with both his father and brother running a medical practice in Naas.
