Our story begins with the fond memories of Cullen’s Hardware and Seeds business on Naas’s North Main Street, a business that has a special place in the hearts of the older generation of Naas. Originally owned by Aidan and Bates Martin, along with Bate’s brother, Jimmy Cullen, the hardware and seeds business was an integral part of the community of Naas and it’s surroundings, with people travelling far and wide to purchase from their abundant and specialised stock.

 In 1971, Teahan Optometrists was founded by Oliver Teahan and his soon-to-be-wife Carmel Martin, Aidan and Bate’s daughter. They were optometry gradutes of DIT Kevin Street. In the early days the practice was situated on the first floor, above Cullen’s Hardware store. As the years passed, the practice flourished, and when Carmel’s parents decided to retire in the early 1980s, Teahan Optometrists expanded its footprint to encompass the entire building at North Main Street. This marked a significant milestone, elevating our presence as a prominent business on the main street of Naas. The business steadily developed into a thriving optometry practice that Carmel and her husband Oliver successfully oversaw for three decades, before retiring and passing on the baton to their daughter Nikki in 2003
